8:30am        Forever Green: Novel Crops Creating Opportunities for Farmers and Businesses
                    
Presented by: Dr. Mitch Hunter, University of Minnesota
                    Forever Green is developing and improving winter-hardy annual and perennial crops that  
                    protect soil and water while driving new economic opportunities for growers, industry, and 
                    and rural communities. Hunter will provide an update on the efforts of Forever Green to 
                    commercialize and build supply chains around novel crops like Kernza® perennial grain,
                    winter camelina, and pennycress.

                     We will visit the University of Minnesota Turfgrass, Research, Outreach, and Education
                     Center where we will learn about ongoing research conducted by the turfgrass team. The
                     focus of the research program at the university is on developing low input turfgrasses for cold
                     climates. Current projects include dormant seeding methods, tall fescue-Kentucky bluegrass 
                     mixtures for water conservation, impact of mowing during drought on fine fescues,
                     performance of fine fescues under tree shade, bee lawns, and more.
                     We will then head to Twins Stadium for a pre-game tour of the stadium and field followed by
                     the President’s Reception at Twins Stadium in a Suite.
