NSTA was established in 1950 to promote the interests of the northern seed trade. NSTA works with educational and regulatory authorities and other interested agencies in the development of a sound and effective seed program.

NSTA members are a diverse group of individuals, firms, and corporations regularly engaged in the wholesale distribution or conditioning of seeds for planting.

Mission & Objectives of the Northern Seed Trade Association –

  • To promote the interests of the northern seed industry and to work cooperatively with federal, state, provincial and local regulatory authorities and agencies to develop an effective northern agricultural seed program.
  • To educate and inform the general public and federal, state, provincial and local government officials and regulators of the benefits, value and scientific facts supporting the development of a sound northern agricultural seed program.
  • To conduct conferences, seminars and forums intended to educate and inform members and the general public regarding subjects of interest to the northern seed industry;
  • To conduct educational and scientific research, draft position papers and provide testimony on issues and topics pertinent to the goals, initiatives and issues facing the northern seed industry and its members, and to make the same research and information available to members, the public, policy makers, lawmakers and regulators;
  • To develop and publish educational and legislation/regulation related press releases and newsletters to educate and inform members, the northern seed industry as a whole, policy makers, lawmakers, regulators and the general public on issues and topics relevant and important to the northern seed industry;
  • To advocate for policy and regulatory reform on the federal, state, provincial and local levels on behalf of the northern seed industry and its members;
  • To engage in any activity not prohibited by the North Dakota nonprofit corporation laws and not prohibited by the Internal Revenue Service with respect to an organization that falls under IRC Section 501(c)(6) and the regulations and laws promulgated thereunder.
